Steve is a lose cannon in court and wins by unconventional means... including getting both him and Victoria, a by-the-book prosecuting newbe lawyer, tosed in the slammer for contempt. Never mind she has a beautiful face, slim with long legs and expensive clothes. Too bad about the smaller than desired Rudnicks. That's Bobby's term... he is an autistic kid his worthless, druggie sister had and treated like a animal. Steve rescued the kid from a cage in a commune from hell and did serious damage to his sister's criminal boyfriend who took exception. A ritzy murder case looks like the perfect way for both Victoria to get noticed as a serious lawyer and get Steve out of his low rent hole, taking pro bono cases for the poor and hopeless and the girls down in the modeling agency who have pretty faces, slender and with long legs ... and really big Rudnicks. When Steve outmaneuvers Victoria for being the defender of the rich wench charged with choking her husband to death during sex with restraints, whips, and other delights Steve proposes a partnership with Victoria (instead ofher getting him disbared). While fighting like crazy over proper court behavior and his personal frat boy life style the two must play detective to discover just what happened that night. Meanwhile rival prosecuters are salvating at their plans to ruin Steve as an attorney, remove the kid he loves from his custody, and nail him for criminal assault on the lowlife he clobbered to free Bobby from the horrors of the festering comune. Then there is the nagging problem with the woman helusts after being engaged to the safe, uninspiring avocado farmer and would-be real estate king who want Victoria to be his dutiful realator closing on lots and home sites.... instead of being the team who defends the rich and poor against the prosecutors looking for fame, fortune and maybe a stint at being governor. While Bobby informs Victoria of the hundreds of words and phrases for sexual acts, positions and innuendos ... in several languages including Greek and Latin. A real grin all the way through.

The Deep Blue Alibi A Solomon vs Lord Novel Paul Levine 9780440242741 Books Reviews

I stopped reading Levine’s Lassiter books after only two because Jake Lassiter acted more like a pubescent teenager than an adult.

I almost gave up on this book because Steve Solomon was acting like Lassiter’s twin. Fortunately, Levine saved it by having Solomon grow up. And throughout most of the book Solomon and his partner, Victoria Lord, acted like bickering siblings than adult lawyers.

Levine also wasted too many words on women’s boobs and men’s penises.

Offsetting the frat boy writing is a complex, twisty mystery and two great characters in Steve Solomon and Victoria Lord.

I won’t give up on this series just yet but if Levine continues writing at this level, I will.
I always enjoy reading a book by this author and this one was no exception. He not only has a fine tuned sense of humor but is able to put it to paper for the reader to appreciate and chuckle over. This is saying a lot as the book is a murder/legal mystery which is solved quite nicely by Solomon and Lord who are lawyers who play to win both in and out of the courtroom.

I have rated this book 4.5 stars.

I obtained this book from in format.
Paul Levine has become on of my most regarded authors. He writes a good story, and he keeps his facts "in order"... I had originally stumbled across Deep Blue Alibi first and after reading about 4 chapters, backed out, left on the library list, and hauled in all of his books and started with the 1st Solomon book.... he keeps his locales honest and his travel times accurate. To me that is important, I have no room for authors who seem to be able to travel 3,000 miles like it is just a trip around the corner to the grocery store. Those, I quit reading. Thank you Paul, for allowing me ito your home. John
One would think the quick and light banter of main characters would make characteristics likable. Our author thinks so. The problem is that banter can't cover up character flaws. And it's true here. Book 1 of Solomon vs Lord set the stage ... but Book 2 makes our characters less likable. Too bad really 'cause it could have been different if the supporting cast supported our 'heros'. Alas, mothers and fathers and uncles and childhood pals are bigger cacas than ever. I can't make the time and emotional investment in Books 3+. I'm sailin away...
I told you that I wasn’t finished with the Solomon vs. Lord series. Paul Levine hits it of the park with this second book, Deep Blue Alibi (to use one of Steve Solomon’s idioms). I’m not sure what it is, but I find that a lot of the sequels I have been reading lately do not meet my expectations like the first book in the series. However, that does not by any means imply it is not a good read. While I loved this book, it wasn’t as awesome as Solomon vs. Lord.

This book kept me laughing though and I got to read about another potential love triangle as Victoria entertains the possibility of reuniting with the boy that gave her her first kiss as a teenager. To Steve’s utter dismay, the boy is very much a handsome, rich, talented, and tanned (and definitely well endowed - as you'll read) man named Junior. It was funny to see how Steve reacted to Junior as he and Victoria attempt to prove Junior’s father innocent of a murder. Not only is that going on, but Victoria is also dabbling in the possibility of being a solo lawyer and moving away from having Steve as a partner. This is the reason why I wasn’t as enthralled with this book as I was with the first. It seemed that Victoria is never happy with whatever situation she’s in; like she’s wanting/expecting more. Levine rationalizes it but I found it a bit annoying at times. I would have expected Steve to behave that way. Instead, he was the love-sick guy who could never do anything right in Victoria's eyes. Now, with that said, I really could not put the book down. It was action packed and it had a lot of laugh out loud moments, which is hard to get me to do. I can’t wait to see what happens next with these two.
