Alice Hoffman has written such lovely books and this one was just as good as all of the others. She never disappoints! I finished this one, reluctantly, not wanting it to end.
Hoffman seems to always use some element of magical realism. This book is different as it's a myth of a tribe of women warriors and the writing is influenced by historical evidence of the possibility of such a tribe. Good but not my favorite.
A tale of a time long age in a setting unknown to us of a nation of women. Their quest for glory and life is an amazing story in a strange and violent place.
Alice Hoffman yet again creates a world that draws you in. Her creative imagination makes it all very real and understandable. A history to relate to!
Told through the eyes of Rain, a warrior queen's daughter, this story describes the life of her tribe and her own passage into womanhood. These women are fierce warriors, but Rain hopes for a time of peace in their future.. I found this novel to be so interesting that I didn't want it to end. A very enjoyable read!
After reading "The Marriage of Opposites" I was anxious to read another of Hoffman's books, but was sorely disappointed. This takes too long to get to the gist of the book and pretty much leaves you hanging at the end. In other words, she summarized what should have been written. I am reading "The museum of Ordinary Things" and it seems to be going the same way.
Blending of myth, fantasy and female power and indomitable spirit into an uplifting tale. Read this story to recharge your batteries and renew your faith in your own abilities to face and overcome your demons.
